UNIZULU Partners in Launching Book Promoting Multilingualism in HE
The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) joins the Department of African Languages and Culture in celebrating three of its academics who contributed two chapters in the book titled: Implementation and Promoting Multilingualism: Speaking Through Different Languages in South African Higher Education Spaces.
The project is spearheaded by the UFS Academy for Multilingualism and aims to promote multilingualism in the South African higher education system. The publication is a collaborative initiative featuring 11 chapters authored by researchers from various universities in the country. In keeping with the book title, the authors wrote in their mother tongues, thus offering an impressive blend of four indigenous languages (isiZulu, Tshivenda, Sesotho, and Sesotho sa Leboa) within a single publication.
Dr Khayelihle E Khumalo singularly wrote a chapter while Professor Zanele G Buthelezi and Dr Sithembiso Mthembu collaborated on another.
The book was recently launched in the UNIZULU Library at KwaDlangezwa Campus in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Press and the University of Free State (UFS) Academy for Multilingualism. The intimate gathering was graced by the presence of Professor Kevin Naidoo, Acting Deputy Dean: Research, Innovation and Internationalisation.
Dr Mthembu, an academic from the Department of African Languages and Culture who was among the organisers of the book launch, described the launch as a great success. The main activity was a panel discussion conducted by various authors and academics from UNIZULU, Mangosuthu University of Technology and UFS, who presented on and discussed what their chapters were all about.
