Eskom Expo: Igniting Scientific Curiosity in Young Minds
The annual Eskom Expo, held at the University of Zululand’s (UNIZULU) King Bhekuzulu Hall, has once again proven to be a resounding success, bringing together learners from diverse schools to showcase their innovative science projects.
This esteemed event was opened by the director of the UNIZULU Science Centre Dr Dereck Fish, who encouraged and welcomed young minds to the gathering.
“Welcome to the world of STEM, where curiosity meets innovation and creativity knows no bounds. Dream big, work hard and join the movement of young minds revolutionising the world through science, technology, engineering and math,” Dr Fish said.
The Eskom Expo provides a unique platform for learners to demonstrate their scientific prowess, creativity, and critical thinking skills. This year’s event saw an impressive display of projects, ranging from environmental sustainability solutions to cutting-edge technological innovations. The expo’s impact extends beyond the university walls, as it inspires and motivates learners to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The event’s success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of Eskom, UNIZULU, and participating schools. By providing a supportive environment, learners are encouraged to explore scientific concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and showcase their talents. The expo also offers an opportunity for learners to interact with peers from different backgrounds, promoting cross-cultural understanding and exchange of ideas.
One of the most interesting topics showcased at the expo was the use of renewable energy sources to address the global challenge of climate change. Learners presented innovative projects, such as solar-powered irrigation systems and wind turbines, demonstrating their understanding of sustainable energy solutions.
