With a University of Zululand (UNIZULU) BCom in Accounting Science degree under her belt and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting obtained from UCT to now a qualified CA (SA) Nonjabulo Nolwazi Mtshali says she is eternally grateful.

UNIZULU graduate was among the competent achievers in the December 2023 Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). By accomplishing the impossible, Nolwazi ensured that UNIZULU is among the 16 South African universities accredited by SAICA.

After passing her matric from Menzi High School where she matriculated in 2016 with five distinctions and an average of 88%. Her academic achievements were quite impressive. Nolwazi received a call from one of her teachers telling her that he received a call from Lethu Mkhize from Thuthuka Bursary Fund. Thuthuka was looking for students who wanted to study BCOM Accounting Science at UNIZULU. That is how Nolwazi’s Chartered Accounting Journey Started. She was offered a Thuthuka Bursary and was told that it will finance her tuition fees, books and meal allowances for the undergraduate and Honours degree. They also promised job placement, of which they did.

Like in high school, she excelled academically from 2017 – 2020 and completed her degree with Distinction at UNIZULU, she further completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting at UCT in 2021. In January 2022 she got a placement as an audit trainee with EY. She further wrote and passed the January 2022 SAICA Initial Test. She recently completed the December 2023 SAICA APC, the results were announced on Friday 23rd of February 2024.

Her interest in finance was further fuelled by Busisiwe Mdletshe who a CA(SA) from Ngonyameni is, then her brother Siyamdumisa took the CA route in 2016 when she was in matric and became her inspiration.

Accounting is a challenging degree, and you must work hard, the twenty-four old admits,” keep reminding yourself why you started and how this course will benefit you in future. This journey requires a lot of dedication, persistence, strong emotional support and mostly you need God by your side. Do not forget your end-goal: use this as your motivation.” she advises current students.

Currently Nolwazi is employed by Ernst & Young Inc (EY), a British multinational professional services partnership. EY is one of the largest professional services networks in the world. Along with Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC, it is considered one of the Big Four accounting firms, she is doing her final year of articles.

Ecstatic Mtshali, is originally from Kwa Maphumulo in EMabomvini, raised by her uncle Thulani Mngadi since her mom passed away in 2005 when she was only in grade one. she has always been eager to seek opportunities that will leap her closer to her career aspirations to become a Chartered Accountant.
