Umoba Arts Festival set for the weekend
THE intimacy of art will be on display when various artists come together to exhibit their crafts at the first Umoba Arts Festival this month. The first of its kind, the event is spearheaded by the University Of Zululand Department of Creative Arts and supported by
the City of uMhlathuze and other stakeholders. The three-day festival will be held at Empangeni Civic Centre,Empangeni Museum and Zikhulise Arts Centre from Thursday, 8 December to Saturday,10 December. “The festival addresses areas ofnational importance, such as social cohesion, audience development, artist development, job creation, entrepreneurial opportunities, tourism development, and it puts the northern KZN region on the global map. “It will be staged as a provincial programme, although in the year of its inception, some productions will come from a few selected districts neighbouring King Cetshwayo,” said festival director Gift Marovatsanga.
The festival will include Adding some humour is top comedian Gqonqa Mzambiya the playwright and director programme, and various theatre, music and dance productions, as well as visual exhibitions. A choral and traditional music slot, as well as a jazz and soul sessions, multi-media exhibitions, a tributes evening and cultural symposium will also part of the three-day programme.
