“This one is dedicated to my late mother” – Graduate Says

University of Zululand’s (UNIZULU) Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law (FCAL) opened the graduation season for 2023 on Monday, 17 April at the King Bhekuzulu Hall, KwaDlangezwa Campus. Among the first group of the class of 2022 was Siyabonga Shishane, a 22-year-old who graduated with a Diploma in Logistics Management.

Shishane “came, saw and conquered” all the way from a place called Colenso in Ladysmith. He was one of the top achievers in his faculty, achieving an outstanding 76.542% average mark – making the graduate extremely proud.

Speaking after his conferment, Shishane said, “I grew up in a poor background so my goal is to change the situation at home.  I hope my late mother is proud [of me] where she is. This one is dedicated to my late mother!”

In recognition of him being a top achiever, Shishane received a laptop, courtesy of UNIZULU Vice-Chancellor Professor Xoliswa Mtose. For him, studying hard was the only option as it was the only hope Shishane had of changing his future for the better.

The graduate is currently working on his Advanced Diploma in Logistics Management at the University of Johannesburg. He is hoping to have a breakthrough in the five years and become one of the most successful logistics managers.

He concluded by urging current UNIZULU students and those who are about to embark on their higher education journey to devote themselves to their studies because only hard work pays off.
