Media Statement by Gcina Nhleko, Communications and Marketing Director at the University of Zululand
The Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law at the University of Zululand will be hosting its flagship MBALI Entrepreneurship Symposium, a two-day conference geared towards developing entrepreneurship in the Northern Zululand region and the country at large.
The symposium will begin on Wednesday, 13 September at Protea Hotel, Waterfront in Richards Bay and end on Thursday, 14 September 2017.
Central to the conference is the creation of an entrepreneurship body which will be comprised of national, provincial and local government, the Zululand Chamber of Commerce, private companies, community formations, emerging and established local entrepreneurs and the University. Through this established network, small businesses will be nurtured and capacitated to grow, expand and ultimately employ more people.
Several representatives from the various spheres of the entrepreneurship body will be present during the symposium. Among these will be Minister of Small Business Development Lindiwe Zulu, who will give the keynote address; KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Sihle Zikalala; and Councillor Mduduzi Mhlongo, the Mayor of the City of uMhlathuze.
Another objective of the Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law is to establish an entrepreneurship centre at the University which will see academics in the institution developed into business consultants who will intervene in the co-operative and small business arena.
