Chasing Dreams and Crunching Numbers: Siphokazi’s Journey to Becoming a UNIZULU BCom Accounting Science Student

“Believe in yourself, take a leap of faith, and watch your dreams unfold.” These are the wise words of Siphokazi Akhona Nsele, a bright and ambitious student who’s about to take the world of accounting by storm.

Siphokazi matriculated from Inkosi Moses Zikhali Secondary School located in Mbazwane. Her passion for numbers and problem-solving led her to pursue a BCom in Accounting Science degree at the University of Zululand (UNIZULU). Her parents were both entrepreneurs and would often share stories about the challenges and triumphs of running a business and dealing with numbers. These conversations sparked Siphokazi’s interest in embarking on the BCom Accounting Science route post matric.

Speaking to Siphokazi’s mother, Nokuphila Bongeka Nsele, she said seeing her only child pass all her subjects with distinctions and being one of the top achievers in her school is a dream come true for her.

“I feel a deep sense of relief knowing my child has overcome all the high school challenges, I can’t help but feel proud as a parent and I’m excited to see what the future holds for her. I know this is the beginning of another challenging step in her life, but I can’t wait to see her grow and thrive in her career path,” said Nokuphila.

Siphokazi stated that she consistently emerged as an outstanding pupil in mathematics and accounting in high school, but she couldn’t have done so without her accounting teacher, Mr Shange.

“Mr Shange played a significant role in nurturing my passion for Accounting. His guidance and encouragement helped me develop a deeper understanding of accounting principles and their practical applications,” Siphokazi acknowledged.

Not losing focus on her studies, working hard and believing in herself was also integral in her overall success in matric. She was mindful of the fact that matric year is a critical phase in one’s academic journey and therefore “it is essential to make the most of it, surround yourself with positive influences, prioritise your studies and take care of your physical and mental wellbeing”.
