“The Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards is the grand culmination of celebration of success of our researcher, innovators, and knowledge disseminators. it is the highest accolade for achievement in research, innovation, and teaching at the University. The aim of the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards is to recognise members of the university community who make an outstanding contribution to the University’s strategic vision and whose work has been deemed beneficial to the University and to society.” These were the words of Professor Byron Brown, Director of Research and Innovation, during the 2024 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards

The ceremony hosted at the Umfolozi Hotel Casino Convention Resort in Empangeni, was organised by the Research and Innovation Office in conjunction with the Teaching and Learning Centre. In attendance were Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof Xoliswa Mtose, Executive Management, deans, support staff and, of course, the recipients to whom the evening had been dedicated. Sbusiso Manana, Head: Agriculture Business Unit at the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), was invited as a guest speaker.
