UNIZULU participated in Transport Career Expo

The Department of Business Management (Transport and Logistics Section) at the university of Zululand (UNIZULU) was invited by the National Department of Transport (DOT) to a Transport and Logistics Career Expo .This was in commemoration of  Transport awareness day at Bilanyoni, Edumbe Local Municipality in Paulpietersburg on the 10th of February 2024.

Dr Ayansola Ayandibu the Head of Department – Business Management,  K Ampofo-Twumasi the Program Coordinator, Transport & Logistics and  Bongiwe Gune, an Assistant Lecturer – Transport and Logistics attended the event.

UNIZULU’s team joined the collaborative effort to showcase the Transport programs that the institution offers and the career opportunities which are available to students..

The Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga, visited the UNIZULU stand and expressed appreciation to the Minister for the DOT/UNIZULU MOU agreement which outlines grant funding for Students pursuing the programmes and funding for Academic Development of Transport and Logistics Programs offered at the UNIZULU’s Richards Bay Campus.

The entry requirements for Diploma in Logistics and Diploma in Transport Management were explained to students. The admission selection criteria was also explained  with emphasis on Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy and English Language were stressed to the attendees. Potential students to UNIZULU’s Transport and Logistics programmes were advised  to apply via the Central Applications office (CAO) early in the year and choose the Transport and Logistics Course as a first or second Choice, to stand a better chance of being selected for admission. The ample career opportunities after pursuing these Diplomas at UNIZULU were explained to students who visited the UNIZULU stand.

The expo aimed to inspire and uplift young people to think freely and pursue sustainable livelihoods.

Dr Ayandibu expressed his excitement in undertaking this community engagement exercise. “The UNIZULU’s visit uncovered Logistics and Transport Studies, to Educators and Students in this rural area, who did not even know that these programs were offered at the UNIZULU’s Richards Bay Campus. I would love to see these expose  replicated in other Rural areas in KwaZulu Natal Different career paths presentations will be presented to the learners and they will also be informed on how to access those career opportunities.” Concluded Dr Ayandibu
