UNIZULU Netball Players Shine at USSA Tournament

The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) applauds two of its student netball players, Silindokuhle Mazibuko and Asanda Mdolomba, for their excellent performance during the recent University Sports South Africa (USSA) tournament that was held at Stellenbosch University, Western Cape.

The two players formed part of the UNIZULU netball squad that competed in Division A of the USSA premiere league. The team played five games, wherein it competed with five other universities. Mazibuko and Mdolomba’s outstanding performance during these games was hard to notice and as a result, they were named among the top seven players in their division. These top seven players are formally known as the dream team – a high honour for any player. Mazibuko was selected as the best goalkeeper while Mdolomba was considered the best goal shooter.

Speaking about her recognition, Mazibuko said, “I would like to thank my coach for his wonderful instructions and my teammates. Without them, I wouldn’t have made it.”

Mazibuko, who was participating in the USSAs for the second time, added that being selected for the dream team shows improvement and consistency compared to her previous performance in the tournament. “Start unknown and finish unforgettable,” she said.

Mdolomba said she wasn’t expecting to be amongst the seven players of the dream team. She said not missing the team’s gym sessions is what made her successful. She had an ankle injury in February but because she believes that commitment is important, she put more effort during the sessions to make sure that she was fully ready for the USSAs.

USSA is one of the biggest tournaments in the universe for universities sport.
