University Of Zululand Hosts Successful 8th Teaching And Learning Conference

The University of Zululand’s Teaching and Learning Centre lately hosted the highly anticipated 8th Teaching and Learning Conference at the luxurious Premier Hotel in Richards Bay. The three-day conference, held under the theme “Curriculum and Digital Transformation in Higher Education: Current Practices and Trends,” brought together academics from across the globe to share research, expertise, and innovative ideas.

Day One: A Resounding Success

The conference commenced with a cheerful welcome by Deputy vice -chancellor Prof Vuyokazi Nomlomo, on behalf of Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Xoliswa Mtose, who graciously attended the event. Prof. Nomlomo set the tone for the conference, emphasising the importance of curriculum transformation and digital innovation in higher education.

This was followed by the first keynote address by Renowned scholar Prof Molefi Asante from Temple University, Philadelphia. His thought-provoking Keynote address touched beyond European racism, unpacking the erasure of Black contributions. This keynote address sparked intense discussion. Prof. Asante emphasised the need to acknowledge and celebrate African achievements, citing the construction of the pyramids as an example “We must be specific when attributing credit, it was black people who built the pyramids,” he asserted.
