International Office

On the 10th of April 2024, the International Office launched its first induction buddy programme that is called ‘’Sisonke” which means we are together. The Sisonke Buddy Programme focuses on supporting both the local and international students in working together as a unit. It also exposes students to global citizenship spaces within their home environment. The programme aims to conjoin local and international students through meaningful long-standing friendships and for them to learn and have more knowledge on intercultural competencies at the University of Zululand.

The programme was hosted at the Old-VC’s House. It was attended by the local buddies, including the buddies from Richards Bay Campus. The local buddies were chosen among the group of students who applied last year when the call was out around October. The Induction was unpacking the Do’s and Don’ts, how to set boundaries between you and your buddy, what kind of support you can provide, and the expectations.

In attendance was Mr Z. Mdletshe, Manager in the International Office, Mr Khwezi Shamase, Liaison Officer and the Coordinator of the Sisonke Buddy Programme in the International Office,  Professor I. Ezeuduji, the Faculty Internationalisation Coordinator for HSS, Professor T. Matadi, the Faculty Internationalisation Coordinator for FCAL, Dr. Z Ngcobo, the Faculty Internationalisation Coordinator for FSAE, Dr T. Ngidi, the Faculty Internationalisation Coordinator for the Faculty of Education , Mrs N. Nkomo from FCAL and our buddy students.
