Update on Meal and Transport Allowances

Update on Meal and Transport Allowances

Dear students

Allowances for meals and transport were paid through Fundi to qualifying and approved NSFAS and bursary holding students for February and March. The university cannot disburse payments of allowances to students who have not yet been approved by NSFAS.

The university received confirmation of approval of another group of students from NSFAS last week. Allowances for February and March for this group will be processed this week.

The transaction fee of R30 that is deducted by Fundi was agreed with Fundi by the SRC (President and Treasurer General) as well as the Executive Director Finance. This was agreed as a fee per transaction per student and will be deducted by Fundi for each payment for as long as Fundi administers the cash payments. It was not a once off only for the first payment.  Fundi is being consulted with the view to understand the rationale behind the R30 deduction per transaction. Until we receive further explanation from Fundi, University Management cannot provide any answers to this matter.

Requests from Fundi to verify banking details are SMSed and emailed to students. Please note that if you receive SMSes and emails, it means that your banking details are not yet verified.

The KwaDlangezwa Campus remains closed to students. No student will be allowed access to the KwaDlangezwa Campus until further notice.

  • This update is super helpful! It’s clear the university is working hard to get allowances sorted. But that R30 fee? Sounds a bit mysterious. I remember when I got my first bursary payment, there were some odd little fees too. It’s like a hidden cost adventure! Have any of you had to deal with unexpected fees before? And what do you think Fundi’s reason for the R30 deduction could be?
