ABOUT US

The International Office is an enabler and acts as a central interface for all internationalisation activities at the University of Zululand. The International Office is the home away from home for our international students and remains the contact point for UNIZULU’s international students and staff.

Our office expedition is to contribute grossly to the four components which are the focus areas for internationalisation at UNIZULU and these are:

Graduate attributes

Students who have been exposed to a well-structured international collaborative programme will have an enhanced student experience.

Curriculum

This could highly assist students develop international and intercultural skills without ever leaving the country.

Research

The University seeks to produce cutting-edge research to promote African scholarship at a global level through teaching and learning and research, that is relevant to the local context of a comprehensive institution.

Staff Profile

This happens as a result of being exposed to internationalisation through collaborative teaching and research amongst staff and students in the institution.

OUR OBJECTIVES

UNIZULU aspires to achieve improved academic quality through teaching and learning, research, and community Engagement. The university also seeks to have staff and students that are internationally oriented. To this end, the institution has formulated several goals to be achieved through the implementation of internationalisation.

 

Global Partnerships

Goal 1

The office supports faculties in fostering relationships and partnerships with universities, organisations, and institutions worldwide. This supports academic exchanges, research collaborations, cultural exchanges, and the internationalisation of the curriculum. To date, the institution has several active partnerships with institutions across the globe. The university strategy (Vision 2027) positions the institution as the node for African thought. This positioning has motivated the institution to forge more partnerships and have a footprint on the African continent.

Supporting International Students

Goal 2

The International Office helps international students transition to the institution and life in a new country. It also helps them adjust to academic and cultural differences through the Sisonke Buddy Programme, which is part of the Internationalisation at Home Co-Curricular initiatives

The office manages exchange programmes and student opportunities to study abroad. We organise study abroad fairs and facilitate partnerships with international institutions, helping students explore global academic experiences and develop a broader perspective

To instil intercultural literacy among the university community, we organise cultural events, workshops, and activities, such as International Education Week, held annually. These activities promote cross-cultural understanding and create an inclusive environment for international and local students

The office provides advising services to international students and faculty on various matters such as academic requirements, cultural adaptation and visa regulations.
