THE South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) recently launched the University of Zululand (UNIZULU) Chapter. SAAPAM aims to encourage and promote good governance and effective service delivery through the advancement of professionalism, scholarship and practice in public administration and management.
Welcoming attendees, the Dean of Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Law Prof Dev Tewari said with the launch he was optimistic the UNIZULU public service department will be the best public service administration in the country.
Guest speaker Prof Kedibone Phago said it was not easy to launch the association because issues around administration, governance and service delivery are very complex. “The chapter should have seminars and chapter conferences to get the attention of the mother body. We need to reflect what are the peculiarities affecting KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.
UNIZULU’s Samuel Olivier presented two papers, firstly: “Assessing health competency caps in KwaZulu hospitals: reference to Lower Umfolozi Hospital Regional War Hospital (LURWMH).” His second paper looked at “Innovative public leadership versus new public management.”
Prof Sam Lubbe from UNIZULU Department of Business Management presented a paper on “Green IS Management Framework Verification: Explicating the Enabling Capabilities of Green IS.”
