NOKWETHABA SITHOLE
UNIVERSITY of Zululand (UNIZULU) Social Work Department recently hosted a departmental visit by Professor Herman Strydom from North West University (NWU).

The two day long visit, on 19 and 20 August, was for the purpose of mentoring the UNIZULU Social Work Department on research capacity initiatives and helping to improve supervision abilities within the department.
Prof Strydom has been long associated with this department, where he has undertaken many projects.

He met with the UNIZULU research team which consisted of Prof Rob Midgley (DVC Research and Innovation), Prof Jabulani Thwala (Dean: Faculty of Arts), Prof Dennis Ocholla (Deputy Dean: Research and Internalisation) and Prof Ngenisiwe Ntombela (HOD: Social Work Department).

Sessions were held with the PHD Staff and Masters Students Cohort as well as the Publication Cohort to discuss and assess issues that might require attention in the department.

The visit was the first in a series of other planned visits whose main aim is to assist postgraduate students at the Social Work Department.

Prof Ntombela said the Department benefitted a lot from this visit, as Prof Strydom is an expert in this field and carries a lot of knowledge with him.
Prof Strydom described his stay at UNIZULU as a very warm and friendly one and added that he certainly hopes to come back again soon.
