Department of Psychology: Emeritus Professor and Research Fellow – Faculty of Arts
Prof Edwards was at the helm of the Department from 1982 to 2007. His national and international research activities are mainly concerned with health promotion with specific reference to clinical, educational, community, sport and exercise psychology. His most recent publication published in Journal of Psychology in Africa is titled: “Influence of a breath-based, self-identification meditation on identity, mindfulness and spirituality perceptions.” His research interests include African psychology, indigenous healing, multicultural counselling, transpersonal and integral psychology and spirituality with particular focus on breath, consciousness, meditation and contemplation. His recent research interest is the psychology of religion, in which field he will present papers at international conferences in Israel in June and Switzerland in August.
