University of Zululand held a successful Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Workshop at the Richards Bay Campus on 1 July 2015 ahead of the annual congress to be held on 7-9 October 2015 at Greyville Race Course in Durban. The workshop was attended by over 20 representatives from different universities and other organisations. Amongst the speakers was Jandre Bakker, Director of Excellence Awards, who’s presentation was titled ‘It’s not all about winning or is it?’ His presentation was based on guiding organisations on entering award-winning entries. Wayne Roberts spoke on Social Media, saying that if used in a right way it can grow an organization. He said traditional marketing can be a drain on your funds, Social media marketing is relatively inexpensive and gives you a direct line to current and prospective customers, however,‘What you save in rands, you will have to invest in time.’ Rekha Naidoo, PR Manager of uThungulu District Municipality spoke on Public Relations vs Service Delivery: The Balancing Act. She gave an overview of how the municipality functions and engages with communities as well as the programmes they embarking on, in order to assist communities.
