Recognising UNIZULU Researchers

THE University of Zululand (UNIZULU) held its Annual Research Awards to honour and celebrates outstanding research taking place at the University on 14 November 2013.
UNIZULU Vice Chancellor Prof Fikile NM Mazibuko said this was an important day for the UNIZULU calendar to award researchers for their valuable input. “Research contributes to the prestige profile of the University.”

National Research Foundation (NRF) Executive Director, Dr Andrew Kaniki who was a guest speaker at the event said: “I subscribe to the view that countries with research excellence and quality knowledge production are more internationally competitive, and will reduce poverty among it’s people much quicker than those who are not.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Prof Rob Midgley said the ceremony was to celebrate the positive contribution made by the researchers to put UNIZULU on the map. “This is to showcase research done at our institution and to thank colleagues who are doing extreme good work they have undertaken,” said Prof Midgley. He added that it was important to make public the kind of things we will recognize as a good research behavior.
