The UNIZULU student chapter of the Black Lawyers Association (BLA) in collaboration with the Department of Law on Saturday hosted a successful networking event for law students in the Arts Auditorium.
This event was graced by two UNIZULU alumni, Mr Mbongeleni Mchunu of Mchunu Blose & Partners in Durban and Ms Andile Shazi of Kloppers Incorporated in EMpangeni. Mr Mchunu took the passionate future legal minds through the pertinent aspects of the new Legal Practice Act of 2014 and how the Act is likely to revolutionise the legal practice in South Africa. On the other hand Ms Shazi, who continually punctuated her presentation with jokes from her conveyancing experience, took the students through the basics of conveyancing practice. The students had enough time to fruitfully engage with the two speakers. The acting HOD in the Department of Law, Dr Lonias Ndlovu said the visit by the speakers benefited the students and he emphasised the importance of this practical legal training and external engagement in the context of academic citizenship. The UNIZULU’s BLA chairperson Sphelele Zwane, said the event was fruitful and there were very happy for the informative knowledge given to them. He further said as students they were very happy for the day “this event met our satisfaction with its activities of the day and I would like to thank the Department of Law for a very successful event,” said happy Zwane.
