Joint Statement on behalf of the University and the Student Representative Council RE: REGISTRATION 2016

In line with the joint statement issued by Vice-Chancellors, Principals and Rectors of Universities in South Africa that tuition and residence fees will remain the same in 2016 as in 2015, an announcement was circulated to all students on 7 January 2016 to that effect. Given the unprecedented circumstances that led to that decision and which surrounds the registration process for 2016, the University has continued to engage with the Student Representative Council (SRC) on this matter.

Following these engagements the information contained within the 7 January communiqe has been endorsed by the SRC, save the following adjustment: the Minimum Initial Payment (MIP) fee will change to R3 000.00 for non-residential students and R4 000.00 for residential students. For post graduate students the MIP will be R1 500.00. All students who are not bursary/NSFAS holders will be required to pay the MIP fee. MIP is not a registration fee but an “upfront payment fee” which will be deducted from the student’s tuition.

It was also agreed with the SRC and reaffirmed that returning students who have no more than 50% of total fees outstanding will be allowed to register in 2016, provided that the student has entered into an approved payment plan with the university.”
