Two UNIZULU hockey players have been selected to the South African Country District (SACD) teams following a good showing at the annual hockey tournaments held recently. Warren van der Merwe was selected to the SACD male team while Isabel Mkhabela was selected to the ladies’ team. Both players had excelled at the hockey tournaments held earlier this month with Van der Merwe scoring the second highest number of goals at the tournament held in Limpopo from 4 to 2 July. Mkhabala also impressed at the tournament held in Port Elizabeth from 14 to 19 July. At those respective tournaments the two players had been part of the KZN Coastal teams. Chairperson of the UNIZULU hockey team Bulile Nani congratulated both players saying they had played well during the tournament. Their selection to the SACD teams means they would now compete at the interprovincial tournament to be held from 29 August to 5 September in Pretoria. They would compete against some of the South African national team players in this tournament. “This is truly amazing and inspiring to the rest of the team and we wish warren and Isabel all the best for the tournament and hope to see them on the national team soon,” said Nani.
