Main points 2008 Convocation Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Convocation of the University of Zululand was held at the main campus on 12 April 2008, mainly to elect a new leadership to hold office until 30 March 2010. Prior to the elections, the out-going president, Mr. Mahaye, remarked that he was blessed with the birth of his first-born moments before being elected to serve as President of the Unizulu Convocation on 25 March 2006.

This served to make his entrance as alumni leader of his alma mater a very special occasion for him, and which he also hoped would mark the beginning of a fruitful two-year term of office.


Although general objectives could be achieved, he was disappointed by the lack of an adequate budget, which featured as the major drawback that prevented the accomplishment of, amongst others, the following projects:

• The Cleansing Ceremony
• Golf Challenge
• Gala Diner for 100 alumni members
• Launch of Branches

However, in spite of such constraints, the Convocation was at least able to participate in all of the graduation ceremonies, as required by Unizulu’s statute. As a final point on behalf of the out-going leadership, Mr Mahaye made it clear that the future success of the Convocation hinged upon the University’s ability to assist Convocation with reasonable funding for future projects.
