The University of Zululand hosted a successful Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) congress earlier this month. The congress, held in Durban from 07 to 09 October, saw close to 200 delegates convening at the Greyville Convention Centre for the three days.
Various speakers, mostly experts in marketing, communication and advancement, were there to share their thoughts on how MACE members can improve in their respective fields. Issues under discussion were wide-ranging and included advice on how politically volatile situations can be handled on campus.
MACE is a professional organisation which brings together communications, marketing and advancement professionals who work within the higher education sector in the country. Each year the congress is held and it culminates in the Awards ceremony whose aim is to award excellence in the various fields.
The awards this year were held on Thursday the 8th of October and saw the hosts, UNIZULU walking away with a Merit Award for the UNIZULU #tag Magazine which had been entered in the highly contested printed publications category.
Communications and Marketing Division (CMD) director Normah Zondo said winning the merit award was a sign of more good things to come from the division.
“This is the first ever MACE Award for the University as we had never entered anything for the awards before. It presents us with an opportunity to gauge where we are as marketing and communication practitioners hence we are glad that we got this award. It is good when you get recognition and even more so when you get that from your peers I am super proud of my team. Although we are a very small team we compensate for this through working twice as hard,” she said.
She also thanked the sponsors, the delegates and all the partners who made the Congress a success.
