Date and place of birth : 18 January 1965, Krugersdorp

Study history : I matriculated in 1984 from Kagiso Senior Secondary School, obtained my Secondary Teacher’s Diploma certificate at the Soweto College of Education in 1987 and earned a BA degree in Communication Science from UNIZULU in 1992. Upon joining the SABC in 1994, as a junior archivist, I received ongoing extensive training in audio-visual, editing, quality control and preservation of sight sound and motion pictures on analogue and digital platforms and in 2012/13, I obtained a diploma in People Management Programme from University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Current Position : Principal Archivist (SABC TV News Archives) 2013 to date

I joined the SABC TV News Archives in 1994 as a Junior Archivist. After few years of intensive training, I was appointed Senior Archivist in 2000. In 2013, I was appointed Principal Archivist to date. My main functions/duties in my current position is to attend TV News Editorial meetings daily, give feedback to my team on the main leading stories to be archived daily (e.g. stories on education, economics, sport, crime, politics etc.), check quality of footage that we receive on daily basis and allocate work/footage that needs to be archived to staff members. Over and above that, I check copyright material and give appropriate warning thereof; check the quality of work done by staff (emphasis on Standard Operational Procedure – SOPs), conduct interviews to appoint incumbent(s) for advertised vacant positions in our department and conduct training, coaching and mentoring of newly appointed qualified staff members/incumbent(s). In addition, I handle requests of in-house clients (mainly journalists) as well as international broadcasting houses such as the Reuters, BBC, CNN etc, compile profiles/obituaries of prominent South African figures as well as international ones, oversee the daily operations of the department including digitising of analogue footage and attend workshops as well international and locally organised conferences.
