The University of Zululand security has caught and arrested a suspect for taking cash from students promising to place them at the University to study. Thousands of rands have been found and confiscated from the suspect. Documents of the victims were also found in possession of the suspect. The suspect was handed over to the SAPS and is appearing in court today.
The University is appealing to prospective students and the public not to accept assistance from people who pose as University employees while asking for fees in cash.
The University fees are not paid in cash on campus but should be deposited into official ABSA bank account. The public is warned not to bring cash on campus but only a deposit slip as proof of payment.
Many students have fallen victims to these criminal elements and they are not easy to trace if not caught red-handed.
