Indigenous Knowledge Systems Centre

Vision

The IKSC’s vision is to be a leading Documentation Centre dedicated in upholding an Afro centric world view that affirms the importance of African culture, tradition and will be dedicated for the preservation, protection and dissemination of science and technology related reports and documents.

Mission

  • To mount IKS exhibits of research outputs on posters, digital doorway, and mounted visuals at the Science Centre, Richards Bay.
  • To create a functional database information system for the preservation, protection and dissemination of IK.
  • To serve as a resource base for indigenous knowledge from various communities in the country.
  • To support the use of indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) in the socio-economic development process in South Africa.


Core Business of the IKS Centre

  • To set up and manage the IKS Centre.
  • To document Science and Technology, IKS related reports and documents.
  • To provide strategic leadership and managerial roles for the IKS Centre.
