UNIZULU honoured its top athletes and administrators on Sunday, October 28th. Listed below are the winners of 2013’s major awards.
Sportsman of the year – Sabelo Dladla (UNIZULU Boxing Club) for his endeavours in 2012 and 2013 including the USSA (University Sport South Africa) Games in 2012 hosted by UNIZULU being the best boxer and receiving national colours, was selected to represent South Africa at the world student games in Kazan, Russia
Sportswomen of the year – Phumla Moloi (UNIZULU Taekwando Club) for achievements in 2012 and 2013 USSA Games and Korean Ambassador Cup (International Tournament) receiving Gold (Poomsae) in the USSA games and Bronze (sparring) in the Korean Ambassador Cup .
Club of the Year – Volleyball, (UNIZULU Volleyball Club) was extremely active in 2013, Participating in both local, and national tournaments establishing and forming a successful outreach programme and partnership with KwaDlangezwa High School. Males team came second in the USSA National Games 2013 receiving a silver medal and Ladies team came third receiving Bronze.
Most improved Sport Code – (Swallows Man), for qualifying in the provincial league (achieving position 1) to participate in the National Tournament in 2013
Manager of the year – Mathenjwa Lindani (Swallows Club). For being active in the administration of the Club in 2013 ensuring that all weekend games national games are being arranged.
Players Player of the Year – Sandile Khoza (UNIZULU Volleyball Club) for being the best attacker and scored most goals in the University Sports South Africa (USSA) held at the University of Fort Hare.
Coach of the year – Mkhulumeli Buthelezi ( UNIZULU Volleyball Club). For archieving second place for the male team and for achieving third place for female team getting Silver and Bronze medal in national games.
Captain of the year – Sbusiso Nkwanyana ( UNIZULU Karate Club) for being deciplined,dedicated to his club, understanding time managent, good communicator, humble and understanding. Very active and concerned about wellbeing of is Club.
UNIZULU ACHIEVENTS IN THE USSA (UNIVERSITY SPORT SOUTH AFRICA) SUMMER Games
Tournaments were held in various Universities in South Africa. UNIZULU successfully hosted two national tournaments USSA Bodybuilding and USSA Softball at Richards Bay Campus, University Students across South Africa attended these tournaments and were very impressed by our Richards Bay Campus, Sports continue to be a major marketing tool in South African Universities. The Head of Sport & Recreation Mr Cosmos Hlatshwayo would like to thank all University departments that we worked with us to make the tournament a big success and putting our University on the Map.

MENS SOCCER – They achieved number 1
UNIZULU F.C – UNIZULU SOCCER CLUB in the SAFA Castle League was number 5 in the last season.
Number of students were selected in the national teams and in the national sporting codes executive.
