The University of Zululand has a proud history of producing leaders in different spheres of our society. From its inception great leaders, professionals and business people have gone through the academic conveyor belt of this institution.  It is this proud tradition and heritage that makes UNIZULU to continue striving for excellence in its journey.

The first University of Zululand Convocation Committee was elected in 1984 with the late Professor PC Luthuli as the first president.  Subsequent Presidents were Professor LM Magi, Mr Jethro Ndlovu ( late),  Mr Sisho Maphisa, Dr Simo Lushaba, Mr Mpho Makwana,  Mr Vusi Mahaye,  Adv Simo  Chamane and the current president is Mr Bongumusa Makhathini
